Does anyone know if the temperature light on my JD 950 is supposed to light up when the ignition key is turned to start? The oil and alt. lights light up, but the temp. light does not. All lights do turn off once the engine starts.

Bruce, yes the temperature light should come on when the key is turned to the crank position. It should not light when the key is in the run position, unless the engine is actually overheating. That feature was put in as a bulb check. If it does not light while cranking the engine, you may have a defective bulb or a wiring problem. ....

To all: Don't be fooled into thinking the temperature "idiot light" is working correctly just because it light's up when you start your tractor. My JD 755 overheated to the point of shutting down twice (I still cry when I think about it!) and never did the light come on. Even now with it disconnected (I have a manual gauge now!) it still comes on when I start the tractor. ....
